ADAM WARLOCK

WARLOCK

Here's an issue-by-issue retrospective read-through of Adam Warlock's appearances in the Marvel Universe from his introduction as Him in Fantastic Four #66 in 1967.

The Counter-Earth and Jim Starlin stories are inexpensively collected in Essential Warlock volume 1 - though the lack of colour does affect how good the art looks.

1. Him, Warlock Before Warlock

Warlock's origins are as an artificially created man in Fantastic Four #66-67 and, first called "Him" in Thor #165-166.

2. Marvel Premiere

Him becomes Adam Warlock in 1972 in two issues of Marvel Premiere. The setting of Counter-Earth along with the premise of the god-like High Evolutionary and the devilish Man-Beast.

3. The Power of... Warlock

Adam Warlock continues his conflict with the Man-Beast in eight bi-monthly issues before cancellation.

4. The Incredible Hulk

Warlock becomes increasingly Christ-like - there's a Last Supper (with Hulk as Judas), abandonment on the cross and resurrection - before heading off into space.

5. Strange Tales

Jim Starlin takes over, things become cosmic, Warlock's evil future self turns up and Warlock goes insane.

6. Warlock

Briefly, before a paper shortage cut short the run of Warlock's own title, there are some fantastic issues - particularly those involving Thanos.

With his title cancelled, his 70s adventures are continued in other comics and end with his death.
